The Chief comes to stay...

Say hello to The Chief...
The Chief 2
He arrived at Christmas, carefully wrapped up, with a little air hole cut in the paper so that he could breathe. I had my suspicions that he'd been hiding in Ade's sock drawer for some time in the run up to Christmas but everyone denies it...

The Chief was handmade in the UK by Donna Wilson and lived at The Edge Gallery in Lancaster before he decided to come and live with us. He's officially a 'mitten kitten' but The Chief isn't remotely kitten-ish, he's a fully grown knitted cat. Ade named him and he seems pleased with his new title.

He particularly likes to lean up against our Welsh blanket and cushions, surveying the room with a superior air. Although he never seems to know quite what to do with his very long tail...

New Year...

Its 2010! Sounds very futuristic to me...

It was a full moon last night and the combination of that and the snow meant it was bright enough to go out without a torch. There aren't any street lights near us and normally you walk out of the front door into complete darkness, so it was exciting to be out in the moonlight!

I'd stocked up on sparklers so we walked up onto the common after midnight and had a play with those. Ade's a very confident sparkler-wielder...

But I seemed to pull a variety of strange faces with mine. I am enjoying myself, honest!

The sky last night also featured a partial lunar eclipse at about half past 7, which I found impossible to photograph, but was interesting to see. It was also a blue moon, so a very exciting evening for moon fans everywhere...

Happy New Year! :)

Birthday...

Hot on the heels of Christmas comes my Birthday! It's the day after Boxing Day and this year it was particularly momentous and/or traumatic because I turned 30...

Mum marked the occasion with a spectacular lemon cake decorated with fondant buttons...

Mmm... cake!

There are only about two slices left and they'll probably be polished off later this evening. It's delicious! :)

The day after my Birthday we went up onto the common behind our house to inspect the snow, which has stuck around for ages because it's so cold.

You can just about see the snowy Coniston mountain range in the background behind our rosy faces...

All the tarns were frozen solid too. This is Ade standing on Leech Tarn...

He made it safely back to the edge. I was too chicken to walk on the ice, must be down to my advanced age! :D

Christmas...

Its been a while since I last blogged! Christmas wasn't too long ago though so I thought I'd post some pictures of what we got up to on holiday by the sea in Dumfries and Galloway.

This was the early(ish) morning view from where we stayed...

It was very cold and frosty, which meant pretty frosted shells on the beaches...

A frozen boat...

And such a thick frost on the car that it looked like white fur on the roof...

We watched some beautiful sunsets...

The sun shone on Christmas Day so we spent the morning on the beach (and learnt how to use the timer on our camera!)...

We loved being so close to the sea and just pottering about for a few days. Its a lovely part of the world. Hope we can go back soon! :)
